Keep Irving Beautiful wins Governor’s Community Achievement Award!

We are very proud to announce that Irving was named the winner of the 2010 Governor’s Community Achievement Award (GCAA), a program created by the partnership of Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). One of the most celebrated annual environmental and community improvement awards in Texas, the GCAA recognizes Irving as having one of the best grassroots environmental programs in the state.  As the winner in the largest population category, Irving received $310,000 for a landscaping project along a local state right-of-way.

Communities from all across the state submitted written summaries and supplemental notebooks documenting their efforts in supporting the mission of Keep Texas Beautiful, “to educate and engage Texans to take responsibility for improving their community environment.”  Judges chose winners based on their achievements in seven areas:

  • community leadership and coordination
  • education
  • public awareness
  • litter prevention and cleanups
  • illegal dumping enforcement
  • beautification and property improvement
  • solid waste management

Irving’s application was prepared and submitted by Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB), but this award honors the entire community, and is truly an award for all of Irving to share and be proud of.
